nobody said it was easy...

it is a cold bitter day... yet warm enough for some snow, finally. f and i boarded a bus which takes passengers across the mississippi from st. paul to minneapolis and ends up at a light-rail station. from there, the light-rail would get us to the airport. f's been here visiting... and it's been lovely having him around.

the brief passage on the bridge across the river rendered the visual confirmation of winter's presence, as if the biting cold one feels was mere illusion... the surface of the mississippi was frozen and cracked ... and the snow-sprinkled icy jig-saws encapsulated part of what was once the moving mass of water... stopping motion... as if to stop time.

f and i go ways back to our days in grad-school in germany... we've been friends as though it's been forever... and also a little more than just very good pals... driving each other insane... and helping each other out... well, he helped me more than i ever helped him in return... but such as it is... i seem to be the one who needed more help; me, the little miss "damsel-in-distress"... and little miss "lack-of-self-confidence".

it's a blessing to have a friend like f, who is not only a wonderful confidant, but also someone open-minded and realistic about life... someone who is able to appreciate that often many circumstances are hard to overcome... and that we never know if what we choose to do, decide upon, or the path(s) we end up taking... is necessarily right or wrong.

and so we parted as friends, time and again. perhaps a little wiser and more grown-up in many ways... and more appreciative of who we are because of each other.

silhouettes above sparse snow "Nobody said it was easy
Oh it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
"

soon, the warmth will release the icy sheets and set the trapped water free... and time will no doubt pass until we next meet.

... i'll still miss you so.

But we'll do girly stuff when you're back to soothe the aching heart!
