a year older...

one would think that having spent that last 27 (?!) years living this day in 4 different countries (singapore; wales; scotland; germany...), i might have some idea as to how to go about enjoying it in the years to come... but i couldn't quite decide what to do this day (the beginning of the 28th yr) in the 5th country (usa) ...

for many years long gone by, this day would be overshadowed by more important events... exams etc., end-of-academic-year (uk) farewells and deadlines of some sort... it is only in postgraduate life that i have come to appreciate that birthdays can be fun...

and if little else, birthdays could be an excuse to try to look back at some of the the madness and apparent serendipity in ones life-journey... and smile...

i thought i should perhaps bring a little treat to work today (a german tradition, apparently)... so i attempted to make the 'heidelbeerkuchen' which i received some 5 years ago as a birthday treat from c & f in Tübingen... and if you were here, i'd offer you a slice too...

PS: thank you for all the well-wishes from all over the globe... it does feel special to be a nomad sometimes... even if only for a day every year! =C) and to whoever, who kindly negotiated with the weather so that it was a little warmer than the recent chilly temperatures such that my colleagues and i could have a picnic lunch by the nearby lake...
