one of my female colleagues at the lab gave these prettily painted eggs to me today... she and her daughter must have been decorating eggs for the orthodox Easter this coming weekend, instead of the weekend goneby... i feel terribly ignorant about easter-celebrations and traditions and to be honest, while i have attempted to understand the differences between the different beliefs and dominations of Christianity... i honestly don't quite get it... i think i still know the gist of the story of resurrection from kindergarten days because me and my brothers went to a kindergarten that was run by a methodist church... and i remember attempting to make Easter eggs at home a couple of times when i was much much younger... and while i was in germany, i loved Easter because you get a long-weekend break from good friday till easter monday! it is truly divine... no where in the world do people actually enjoy more public holidays than in germany, i believe...
Easter is also the time when pagan festivities are alive and people dress up in costumes, traditional or modern, to drive away winter and welcome spring... it is quite a sight in germany...
i particularly like easter because of the pretty chocolates that lush chocolatiers would create for the celebration... and i think of Juliet Binoche in 'Chocolate' crushing cacao and making the wonderful brown sticky substance from scratch... and then the gorgeous velvety darkness and the intricately sculpted mouth-watering molasses of joy result from the hard work... i particularly miss edinburgh this easter, for i know at least 3 lush chocolatiers where i could indulge in some wonderful chocolatey treats! sob...
but i guess, we live with what we have... and these pretty Easter-eggs sure make up for the lack of quaint chocolate stores and good dark chocolates in my current life-episode! =C)
