i've been working over 12 hours a day... thinking and trying to solve problems... is awfully draining... but worse still, it is impossible to shut-off... i keep brooding about 'what-ifs'... about what else i have to do... about other potential ways of doing things... about how the programme could be modified or written... it goes on... until i get home to my wee apartment and stare into the fridge and then it all becomes somewhat of a dilemma.
should i just nibble some crackers and cheese because it's nearly 11pm... or is there something warm i could make? don't i have any left-overs? bummer... well, if i make something now, i could bring it into work for lunch tomorrow...
lunch... oh yes... getting lunch at the VA-hospital canteen isn't my cuppa tea... i often go round the stalls at least 3 times before i eventually pick something and then feel sorry that i didn't bring my own lunch...
i've been wanting to use up my wee tin of 'premium crab claws' meat' for the "coconut and crab soup" recipe that my colleague made for the past two potlucks... but i didn't have the thai-curry paste, fish sauce and stock that were spelled out in the recipe... but i have a packet of 'Laksa' sauce that D sent me some months ago, which i've been saving for a treat... and i have some tofu and peppers to use, i have a tin of coconut cream!... and i guess i can cope with not having any fresh corriander...
and so i made myself the coconut crab soup... and felt better slurping it down... the delayed gratification is certainly well-worth the effort... it made me feel full, warm and fuzzy enough to do up the dishes that were piling up... (if i ever get to settle down somewhere in my wee little artsy humble abode... i am so going to have a dish-washer... oh yes! i truly think it is one of the greatest invention!)
SIDETRACK: sometimes, i think i am so used to 'delayed-gratification' that i don't see to my (what could be perceived as) apparent needs... like a new spiffy laptop... or a flash stick-drive, or things i think about getting and then leave them hibernating on my mental wish-list... hoping that someday, my contemplation will end in a more decisive state... the thing with technology is that something 'better, faster, seemingly more trust-worthy and ergonomic, and cheaper' will pop up like in a few weeks... sometimes you wonder why don't they just try to do what they can NOW rather than spiel with their marketing and sales gig...
i want a solid dual-processor with hyper-threading and super cool programming and media softwares that capitalize on that special processing... packed into a nifty 12-14 inch-screen with light but sturdy casing... with all the net-working jazz and dual-layer DVD rewritable drive... excellent international help/care services -- which you hopefully shouldn't have to use... a SOLID reliable Operating System... that is friendly to all softwares i will use... a good mouse-finger-pad... and something that doesn't weigh too much to be carried around with me every day and every other crazy country i end up visiting... i want a system that will not become obsolete in the next 5-10 years... and yet still be affordable... can anyone match that?! har.
oh well... so goes another long long day... ( and my random techno-rants...)... but i have soup for lunch tomorrow... or rather, in a few hours' time! yeah!
May...you need a Mac :)
Posted by: gor on Friday, 10 March, 2006 at 08:47 hrsi suppose! but i am waiting to see if the new version with the new intel-duo-core-chip gets better / more stable... it doesn't have a dual-layer DVD drive and it only comes in the 15-inch size... don't want to be the 1st-generation user... hee.
i don't like the mac the finger-pad though... and i don't really like mice either.
