it is the coldest day ever so far... -19degC and feeling like -25degC... i should have checked the forecast before i left to find the REI outdoor clothing store in a sub-urb city north of St. Paul... i got lost... well not entirely... but had to wander about in the arctic chill for about more than half an hour before i found the place, quite tucked behind the main 'strip-mall' stores in a smaller lane some 6-8 blocks from the bus terminal... it's almost impossible to shop near where one lives here... people travel to these large departmental stores and sometimes these places don't have what you want... sigh.
i couldn't find another equally nice TheNorthFace (3-in-1) winter jacket that's all black in a lovely classic style which has served me very well over the last 6-7 years so i reluctantly gave up the idea of bringing a new one home... i rather get something very close to what i have in mind or i won't buy it at all... because they are usually very long-term investments i'd like to be happy with my find! sigh... but i found a pair of better gloves (maybe not much better... hmm! might return them... crap.) and a glove liner that actually fits my wee hands! ... i've been missing my good pair of leather gloves that i lost 2 years back for a long time now... they were really lovely... *sob*
then i walked back to the Mall near the bus terminal where i explored the departmental store, Marshall Fields, for my first time... with the intention of finding woollen tights! i found only one at first, in S/M size by CK, which is the only one left and so i had to make do with another brand SmartWool (unknown to me until today) which is twice as dear but with twice as much wool! i sure hope they will keep me legs very warm! my old ones are near retirement after serving me well for the last few years... i wish they would sell FALKE tights here... they are the best... german of course but well... perhaps i will drop by Nordstrom next time when i am at the Mall of America to get a pair of their german tights.
it is so cold i cannot tell you how i frozen i feel... or maybe i might stop feeling if it gets colder than this. this is absolutely mad. brrrrrrrrrrrrr think i will have a HOT bath to thaw myself out... and hope it will be warmer tomorrow.
.... i think i need a space-suit... brrrrrrrrrr.

As for the FALKE tights, why don't you ask f to send some over???
Posted by: dimsumdolly on Monday, 19 December, 2005 at 01:00 hrsit is wearing-thin, the goretex and all... i mean i use it almost every day in the last years, wind, rain, monsoon, snow, sun, hail...! if you wear something almost everyday, it obviously gets very worn! NorthFace should give me a new one for loyalty! =cP but the newer designs, with better material, doesn't look as good as the one i have! really annoying.
i wish i could transport the whole of continental europe here...
maybe they will reduce the price post-x'mas... perhaps.
Posted by: overacuppa on Monday, 19 December, 2005 at 01:16 hrsHey tiggie, u can try making ginger tea to keep warm, it really works!
Just use fresh ginger, slice it thinly, dump a few slices into a mug, add really hot water and some honey, then wait 5 mins. Drink and you will feel warmer. Its a proven remedy, ginger tea will help warm your body and you will feel warmer after drinking it, the effects can last for a few hours. And you can drink it everyday if you want to, no side effects!
