wednesday came and went...

some random highlights....

wednesday:

i did watch Pride & Prejudice afterall... but honestly... the last 1/4 of the american-version of the film was unbearably cheesy... the artistic license was a little stretched... it does feel like the inedible layer of icing that you find on cupcakes here in the USA, which i must discard before even attempting to eat it! having said that, i thought what screen-writer Deborah Moggach and director Joe Wright attempted to do was commendable in teasing out the most memorable bits of the novel albeit taking the liberty to move scenes forwards and backwards to create a new adaptation... of course there were bits which could have been better shot... lines which could have been better said and Darcy could be rendered more proud than simply cold and awkward... but overall, it was still worth getting excited about despite the unnecessary 8-minute-longer ending... makes one still fantasize of a Mr Darcy-Knightly combination...

thursday:

during my phone call home, mum told me that i was getting weirder... and i wonder what she really meant by it... mothers know how best to wind you up.

this is the day i discovered that things/places DO shut in the USA... over thanksgiving!... i had to entertain myself with frozen freezer food (thank goodness! i am glad i had stocked up something edible in there) and doing 2 loads of laundry while keeping warm indoors... for it started to snow again... into friday...

friday:

i decided to bake a cake for the bday boy colleague who's hosting a party in the evening which i may not make it since my brother and lianne were to arrive late... the moral of the baking adventure is never to attempt a new recipe and take too much liberty in modifying it when it is to be a birthday cake for someone... it was nonetheless edible... and very chocolatety but a little too adventurously stressful... hee...

ps: after a brief presence at the bday party... my brother thinks i have strange geeky colleagues... i can't help agreeing... and i can sense you might be worried.

saturday:

como-park-conservatory

off to como park with the snowy landscapes for us to enjoy... we pranced about in the glass conservatory nosing our way about the flora...

ferns@como-conservatory

and visited the animals in the zoo... who seem to be entertaining themselves out of boredom...

polarbears@como-zoo

monkeys@como-zoo

we then ate at IKEA and i got to bring back a desk FINALLY! and made yummy glutinous/sticky rice and juicey aromatic meat-balls (a la Nigel Slater) and then treated ourselves to Harry Potter!... the last was deliciously suspense-filling and i am ever convinced i have to embark on actually reading the books... missed out watching the 2nd film! oh drats...

sunday:

had the rare treat to home-cooked crepes with an assortment of fillings... and then a rush to the airport, returning the loan white 4-wheel drive that my brother was so chuffed to rent... goodbyes and me off to get some work done and piecing my desk together!

monday:

back to work... a thousand things to handle... slightly perturbed by my sore tongue and gums... i don't want to visit the dentist.

today:

cold cold cold... way below freezing... -7degC feeling a lot like -20degC... utterly chilly... fingers and toes feel burnt.

and to think one of my colleagues is still biking 6 miles to work in this crazy snow-frosty weather...?!? some hard-core freak.

maybe there might be pics uploaded soon... later gaiters... *pics uploaded!
