remembering the past...

today in Auschwitz the world remembers... and painful memories are rekindled...

i've never been to Auschwitz... but visiting the concentration camp in Dachau near Munich was an eye-opener... and reading One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn for Theory of Knowledge class years ago in Wales, gave me some ideas of what the ordeals that those who had to survive each day in such tormented conditions must have been... still, i am only just able to imagine what it must be like... and nothing really comes close enough to the true experience... but this is one experience which no one should have (had) to live through...

Hi, I was searching for information on mushrooms and sleeplessness. I think there are many things that keep us up, but recently I have noticed when I eat spaghetti with mushrooms that I end up tossing and turning all night. I can't attribute it to caffeine and other drugs, since those were not consumed for days. The posting you had was on Dec. 12th 2004. I will continue to check out your writings. Ted

hi Ted, i was very much jet-lagged on 12th Dec 2004 after travelling some 18-20 hours in the skies a few days before... it is unlikely that mushrooms have inflicted my state of sleeplessness... which eventually gained normality -- more likely it has to do with melatonin... in fact, mushrooms -- or the type of mushrooms i tend to consume which are variations of shitake -- have beneficial properties rather than contrary... they are purported to lower cholesterol and help fight insomnia... of course many of its effects could well be counteracted by other subtances consumed... here is something on foods inducing depression and sleeplessness i found which might be of interest to you... i suppose if you were consuming caffeine or other drugs on a regular basis before eating something 'new' then your body might take a while to adjust to a new eating regime anyways...

just in case you are wondering... i am not a nutritionist nor a medical doctor... i'm merely sharing a few of my personal thoughts... hope you will enjoy better sleep soon!
