conversations with myself

... oh i so want to watch the movie "A Very Long Engagement" tonight... or if not soon...

i was musing in my head as i walked to cello lesson: my cello's nicknamed "the ugly duckling" but i don't really want to play swan songs...

... i wish i could stop feeling silly in front of people -- even when they are familar people... stops me from being myself... and stops me from playing the cello like i do on my own... ie a lot better than when i play it in front of others. crap. makes me annoyed with myself... =C(

... why do people seem to want to talk to me when i carry my cello like a turtle its home on my back?! why don't they think i am just as interesting without it?! people smile at me more -- what's this bizarre-social-status of a cello-carrier?! i really don't get it but i find it amusing...

... i should try this Kaya (coconut-egg-jam) Recipe i found... because the bottle i carried back with me is slowly being eaten up... and i bought 12 eggs and lots of coconut milk last week which needs to be consumed!

re marking: brrrr why did everyone get the concept of "zone of proximal development" skewed?! i wonder what the lecturer actually said! ... a pile of essay responses to "intelligence-'g'" left to go through... let's see if anyone writes something flamboyantly interesting! D didn't think that marking in pencil was that 'cool'... drats. should i have used a turquoise pen?!

still can't find that poem... hmmm i need a neruda collection here...

me too - they are showing that movie here and I really want to go see it. But no time. Sigh.

People always admire musicians...=) Perhaps they may not play and so they envy you your talent. Folks always gaze at talent and beauty.

What poem are you looking for? I love Neruda. =)

the same thing happens to me during my piano lesson which takes place in this wee little room, with me and the nice lady teacher....she's really nice but i still get all nervous and can't play normally.....my fingers tremble as i play ....guess we have to learn to shut out all these people and distractions.

I would also take a second look at someone who's carrying a cello....i guess it's a mix of admiration and curiosity....:) so enjoy the attention :)

it would be so anti-climatic if they only knew how crappy i play the cello! hahahha

piano-'removers' never get that kind of admiration...

monoceros: i can't remember the poem... but it might be in the collection "the sea and the bells" (the only copy left in kino!) which i gave f for xmas... maybe the poetry library has a copy... :C) if not maybe they have something else amongst their collection! yup, me too, i really like Neruda's poetry... :C)

lynette: i am glad i am not the only one! :C) yup we should try to be self-obsessed/absorbed while playing... that's so hard!

agree with your friends. i think it's a mixture of admiration and curiosity. not many ppl our age can afford the time to play music, and there's always some kind of mystic quality attached to a girl walking around with a musical instrument...

hahah D, i just found it funny because when we were chatting on msn, i thought you thought that marking in pencil was 'cool' but you meant that being paid to do a phd in germany was cool... and for a second i felt so good about myself... hahahah
