i'm not sure if many or any of you have eaten Haggis... whatever myths you have acquainted yourselves with, it does taste quite lovely... whether Haggii actually existed still baffles me... i know not if the facts are fiction or truth... but they are often depicted as platypus-like creatures with a duck-like bill.... only that they don't live in Aussie land.
for all those with a whiff of curiosity... here's how you can hunt for the Haggis! and for the those who feel slightly revolted... here's a vegetarian version!
posted by ~overacuppa~ on Monday, 13 December, 2004 at 01:39 hrsI actually had occasion on Friday night to sample some home made haggis! My friend who owns the Machrihanish scottish bar here in Kanazawa, brought through a steaming bowl of unknowns for my inspection. It was really very good - with far more good meat (vs offal) than you'd customarily find in the standard item back home.
As far as the live ones go - good luck hunting one down. I believe they may be amphibious and live in an underwater commune with Nessie, Elvis and the Sasquatch. I did once hear that they had one set of legs shorter than the others, to better enable them to graze hillsides. Must make walking on the flat a right bitch though.
