writer's block...

i should really start writing the report... N gasped at the fact that i've not actually started writing... well, i don't know if she realised i had additional programmes to write and i am not quite finished with that and might just leave them aside for now... had to debug quite a bit which kinda screwed up my schedule a little...

yesterday's good intentions of doing lots of work failed miserably thanks to unnecessary distractions within the department... the welcome speech by the head of school was such a drag... am not sure if it's because of the distinctive american accent but i just didn't think it was terribly eloquent or inspiring, it sounded more military than anything i've been used to... for some bizarre reason or other he just reminded me of George Bush Jr.

only consolation -- found a bug in script --- think i fixed it today... fingers crossed.

i also popped by to the International Student Center Cafe yesterday evening... a first in years. bumped into my new flatmates but Mariam from the Netherlands (a PhD-colleague in Dept) who told me about the events had already left by the time i made it there. it was interesting to know i was the first singaporean that people there have met at the center... i wasn't all too surprised... most of the asians tend to clique within and amongst themselves. i am sure it's not just asians. A was telling me how annoyed she was to discover that there are so many germans about... "haha fancy you coming all the way to Scotland just to meet more Germans! sehr lustig." i said cheekily... in fact, she'd rather speak English... and so i've not actually had a proper conversation in German with her. is that sad or what?! i might just answer her in German.

consolation: spoke to this other girl from Berlin who seemed really quite happy to chat to me in German.
