Alain de Botton voices his opinions on social status quo... but not in the usual way... he is making a point on matters we do not readily acknowledge as being important, or able to aptly express without feeling embarrassed.... e.g. those little unexpected praises that send us soaring into the sky, smiling from ear to ear; or being given one of those beary and suffocating hugs that sometimes smell of BO, but nevermind; a gentle pat on the shoulder or a brief but firm hold on someone's hand to show you care.... these and many others are the little but significant and necessary emotional food we often forget (or are not explicitly part of one's culture) to serve others let alone ourselves... so go on if you can let yourselves... we all need a bit of encouragement.... and a big hug everyday!
