radio...digital tv...cello!

goodness...i am slightly overwhelmed by the entertainment i have just loaded myself today.....you have to understand that for the last 8 years or so i have not had easy access to a tv.....at Atlantic College, about 2 hundred of us shared a 'public' tv which was usually tuned to the football channel....the occasional house-parents party allowed you a wee dose of BBC news....during my first-yr in Edinburgh, i sometimes go to the social centre of Pollock Halls to watch the Simpsons on large screen projectors....then luckily Mille my flatmate for 2 yrs had a tv...we watched Frasiers on some Thursdays followed by Ally McBeal...and some really interesting documentaries too....but in Germany...i only had the rare bouts of CNN when Ute was out of town, or when i do (very rarely) join her in her sitting room, it was 'Who wants to be a millionaire' in German or some other Crimi ....but i did watch StarWars at Frank's with Frank and Claire....radio was not brilliant in Deutschland...at least not where i was...i miss classic FM and the Jazz and BBC news....so i decided i should not deprive myself anymore....went down to John Lewis' and got myself a really small walkman radio (literally like the size of lighter!) and now it's pluged into my portable speakers...generating melodic sounds from Classic FM....bliss. i also bought a digital tv adaptor to connect to my laptop....there isn't much space at my wee place for a real tv...so i am being practical.....that'll let me have the opportunity to tune in to some educational documentaries (e.g. like the one last weekend on 'String Theory' which i missed and am quite upset about it) and some wonderful historical stories....and of course the NEWS! i will have to install the program sometime soon....funny thing is i am not particularly enthusiastic about all these gadgets....call me an oxy-moron.

cello the best bit of all of that is before actually heading to John Lewis' i got out a cello to test/try-out for a week ....for only 1 sterling pound. yes amazing isn't it?! Stringers in Edinburgh has a really nice policy about trying out instruments and various schemes for purchasing. it's a cello slightly above the bottom range which i could potentially afford on installments and which i could sell back if i'd rather not take it to my next destination, or if i'd rather have one of a higher quality some time later.... i have been meaning to do that for weeks now...and i am glad i eventually did drop into the store.

goodness....talk about an entertainment choice overload... i am such a fortunate wee lassie!!!

Yay, I'm so happy for you! Especially the cello part! If LK and I go to the UK for our honeymoon (belated) next May, we'll try and stop byto see you and maybe you can play for us!
