indulging in chocolate...

Delonghi SfornaTutto

Ruthbuth (the other Ruth! i've 2 friends with the same name!) came over to my wee loft flat to visit last Saturday afternoon and we made Brownies while catching up with each other....it was lovely to have bumped into her last last weekend as i didn't have her new contact number since she moved into her new flat about half a year ago....but now i do! Ruthbuth and i studied Psychology at Edinburgh and the other Ruth (with whom i went Ceilidh dancing) did too but only in the first 2 years at uni before deciding to switch her majors to Social Anthropology and Development Studies.

i wasn't sure how the recipe would turn out with my new DeLonghi mini SfornaTutto oven (which i managed to persuade my landlord, David, and his wife, Susan, to substitute the microwave oven that i have no use for...heeeheee)

....but it did work out pretty alright....despite burning it a wee bit underneath... as i have placed the grill real low in order to prevent the top from being cooked too soon but it could actually be placed a wee bit higher next time.....nevertheless, the Orlowskis seem to have enjoyed it so much that Susan dropped a note in my mailbox to ask for the recipe....

i thought i'd share this with everyone who will appreciate a bit of chocolate indulgence ....since it has brought much cheer to the those who have had a chance to taste it.....so here you go....ENJOY!!!

Brownies

brownie
{brownies and cuppa}

ingredients: (amounts are approximate)

? 140g (unsalted) butter
? 4 eggs
? 340g (or less) sugar (brown castor)
? 1 teaspoon pure vanilla essence
? ? teaspoon salt
? 80g cocoa powder
? 140g plain flour
? 110g walnut pieces &/or 110g white chocolate coarsely chopped chunks

procedure:

? preheat the oven to approx. 170deg. Centigrade

? line a 23-24cm square/round baking tin with baking sheet/grease it with butter

? melt butter and leave to cool

? beat eggs gently with sugar until well mixed and stir in the cooled butter and vanilla

? sift salt, cocoa powder, and flour together and add to the mixture
stir until thoroughly blended

? fold in the walnut pieces &/or white chocolate chunks

? pour mixture into tin and bake for approx 40 min or until it is cooked (test by pushing the sharp edge of knife into mixture which should hopefully be clean when it is removed)

? cool in tin for a while and then lift the cake together with the baking sheet out of the tin onto a wire rack to cool.

? when completely cooled, remove the baking sheet and cut into pieces of desired size.

? serve (warm or cold) with ice-cream, vanilla yoghurt, whipped cream etc...

Thanks for sharing, May! I wish I could try some of them brownies! I would like to make some but will need to purchase sift and blender! I only have a baking tin and an oven at present!

And THAT is a nifty looking oven! I wouldn't mind having one of those too!

hey vanny!
i don't have a blender and don't think it's necessary....a bit of hand exercise is good fun!
and you don't really need a sift
use a fork
all i have is merely a small measuring jar and the cake's still edible!
:C)
give it a try...it's fun! :C)
an oven's all you need....of course and a lot of chocolate! heee
