received an entertaining note from Ulli (my senior at the Grad. school) who's currently doing an internship in Paris. just thought i'd share it!...i hope she'll return to Tübingen soon because she's so much fun!
Paris 10th Aug:
"Dear May! A big hello from me and from my neighbour MONA LISA!
I went to the Louvre, which is next door, yesterday and found myself annoying a bunch of people trying to figure out why this painting is so famous. My friend Frank who was just here explained that it got so famous (last last century) because it [apparently] resembles the ideal woman of the 19th century so much. I am happy to live in the 20th/21st century. Ideally, women don't need to be so serious! Hope you are well! Big Hug! Ulli"
haha...your friend Ulli is so cute! But yeah, i actually can't quite figure why this painting is so famous. Personally, i'm not particularly drawn to it.
